Connect with God

There is peace in knowing you are His, a quote from the Proverbs 31 Ministries Instagram:

"You don't have to strive to belong. God has already called you His, and that is enough."

Connect with Yourself

Questions for You to Answer about books!

--What kind of books do you like to read?
--Are there certain themes that you can't resist?
--What do you think this says about your heart, your life, if anything?
--Is there someone you can connect with who enjoys the same kinds of books?

I'll go first.

I went through a phase a few years ago where all I read was Christian non-fiction. I learned a lot about my personality, my purpose, and what to do with this feeling of being alone in the world—all centered around the character of God.

This phase produced lots of growth and courage in me, and I'm so glad I indulged in a space where I was learning and growing.

But now, I have been reading so much fiction. And I'm still learning even here in made up lives of characters. I love to read books about hope and resilience. I love a book about a relationship—friendship, family, romantic—that spans decades. And if there is a war or political unrest as the backdrop, I am hooked.

Some books like this that I've read lately, and loved, are:

  • The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali
  • Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner
  • The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See

All three meet these criteria:

Friendship ✅
Span of time passing ✅
Terrible things happen ✅
A period of separation ✅
They persevere ✅

I'm not necessarily recommending these books to you, unless you also would love that kind of story. Now it's your turn to think about the types of book you read and why, and who you can share that with.

Connect with Others

A snippet of Paul's advice in I Thessalonians 5:

"Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone" (verse 14 NLT).

May these three stepping stones—leaning into God, learning about yourself, being patient with others—surprise you with joy along your path to a connected life.
